Michael Ruta as been making jewelry and other objects for as long as he can remember. From titanium to platinum to a used skateboard wheel or scrap wood, Michael builds passion from any material he gets inspired by.

All week we’ll be featuring participating collaborative artists for the White Van Custom Vans & Custom Van Art Show happening at the brewery on Saturday, May 12 at 6PM.

1. What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day depends on what is “due.” Usually, I get up in the morning and drink coffee while checking emails. After emails, I get started designing and fabricating my work.

2. How does where you live impact your creativity?

My workspace is the spare bedroom in my apartment. If I had a larger space I would love to work on some larger scale pieces. So I would say my creativity is limited to small scale.

3. What advice would you give to a young person starting out?

Being an artist is not easy unless your family has money to pay the bills.

4. What have you sacrificed to get here?

Well, I am not a rich man…
