Through her remarkable work with signs, banners, and public art projects, Shelby Rodeffer’s versatility is something we find incredibly impressive. A champion of work done by hand, Shelby pulls influence from folk and representational art and her work can be seen across Chicago and her native Nashville.
All week we’ll be featuring participating collaborative artists for the White Van Custom Vans & Custom Van Art Show happening at the brewery on Saturday, May 12 at 6PM.
1. What does a typical day look like for you?
There’s no such thing for me right now! Some days I am working outside in the snow or heat, some days I’m answering emails before I work overnight, and other days I’m sewing commissions all day.
Living in Chicago, i think a lot about community and how we can still manage to live pretty insular lives in a major city.
3. What advice would you give to a young person starting out?
Learn by doing!
4. What have you sacrificed to get here?
I’ve given up a desk job with a salary, vacation days and full benefits, but I have gained a fulfilling career and a lot of new relationships through my clients.
